Wednesday - Biggest Loser thought and WW products

Hi friends. Thank you for the positive feedbackisms on my loss. Yay!

I stole the "Be present" thing from Mizfit, of course, but I have to say it keeps flipping thru my head. Part of last week's WW meeting was looking at the things we do to get in our own way, and one of mine is the stinkin' thinkin'. So I've been trying to work on that. I've also seemed to stop obsessing about losing weight and the food food food. OMG-the food. It's easier to go with my gut, eat smaller portions, think about what I'm doing, and make better choices. Yes, easier. For right now. That could all change in a heart beat, but let's just go with it for now, shall we? Hmmm?

I was able to watch most of Biggest Loser last night. Jillian felt really bad about telling that girl - Tara? - that everyone on her team sees her as the weakest link on the team. Was it mean? I would have thought so if it had been me, but I could see Jillian's reasoning. Tara is in her own way. When it starts to get hard, she lets her fear run her. She lets up, quits, or cries, or all three. She needs a reality check and to cut the crap. Puh-lease! I feel at liberty to say it, because that's my deal as well. With this battle when I really struggle, I just want to say screw it all and quit. That would be easier. Staying fat is easier than this puzzle I keep trying to put together to lose weight. For some folks the pieces just seem to fall in to place. I hate those people. . .

All kidding aside - and I really am kidding - I need to be pushed some. Since I have no training guru and don't get terribly motivated by my WW leader, I have to be my own push/kickinthebutt/meanie sometimes. I'm not talking stinkin' thinkin' and negative self-talk. What I mean is that this: I have this desire to run. I've never had it before. I've always hated running - I am not a finesse runner at all. For goodness sake, I flop. But my spirit wants to run. So under cover of darkness in the wee wee hours of the morning when the rest of the world - well parts - are still asleep, I take the dogs and walk. And then I run. At the first sign of excess floppage or windedness, I quit. Why do I do that? I'm afraid. Of what, I don't know. But it's fear. So this morning, after hearing Jillian last night with both ears, I ran. And I made myself run farther than I felt I could and then just a little more than that. It was really liberating to push my own self - to OWN my running and the sweat the popped about 20 minutes into my run-walk this morning. The K9s love it! I love me for trying and out-running my fear.

So Jillian - not mean. Reality therapy=good. There's nothing like a kick in the buttess to motivate some times...and Jilly timed it well.

On to WW products. Why the heck are they so expensive? OMG - the products at the meetings? WTF? I paid 4.50 for 4 stupid 2 point candy bars. Mostly I was curious about what was so good about them. Not much! is the answer. The rice or noodle mixes - $3??? WHY? Ewww. And the stuff is highly processed. OMG - ick ick ick. If you are a WW fan, have a look at the lable on the chocolate mint bars - first ingredient is sugar! Other ingredients - palm kernal oil, corn syrup, butter...OMG - these things are loaded with stuff that just is not healthy. They sell a TON of this product at my meetings. Well, I bought once out of curiousity. I will not buy again. If I am going to have a treat - I'm going to have what I want and not pay a fortune. And when did regular candy bars go up over a dollar? OMG - I bought one at the convenience store and almost fell over...SICK SICK SICK. Well, it'll keep me off candy bars. Unless they are super on sale, that is.

Okay, nuf ranting.

Make it a great day, people.

No ellipticals on the path of least resistance...

Did you catch theBiggest Loser season premier last night?

I did. I always watch and get motivated watching these fat folks put it out there on national television in an effort to become healthy human beings. Last night was another night to cram as much as possible into a very short time. I made chili for supper - no beans for Hugh, and then he didn't want it, so I should have just put the beans in. I also made him sit at the counter to do his math homework while I peeled apples to make some more applesauce. Talk about tedious. I had intended to do some kind of workout between 5 and 7 pm, but I just didn't get there. So I finally plopped down on the couch to watch BL. My little voice was nagging nagging nagging me about a workout, but I kept telling it to shut up. I was intent on sitting there for the whole 2 hours to get to know the new BL people. Ahhhhhhhhhhh, the path of least resistance...

Well, that didn't last long. Since starting at the gym in May I've done some kind of exercise most days. I just don't feel right if I don't do something. I had walked the dogs for about 15 minutes in the morning, and I was trying to tell myself that was enough. But the elliptical across the room - a device I love to hate - kept staring at me. And staring. And staring. So I continued to sit, glancing at it occasionally. That beast. That death trap. That contraption sprung from Hell. Ahhhh, the path of least resistance...

Then I got to thinking. That was my mistake. *lol* How many seasons of BL had I sat and watched and related to and identified with those obese people about to step off the path of least resistance and into a battle for their lives? How many times did I sit on my butt and identify? Answer: however many seasons there have been, that's how many. And here I sat at the same weight again. Ugh. I like my path of least resistance. I'm comfortable there. Fat, but accustomed to that after all these years. There is no elliptical on that path. No gym. No treadmill. No walking shoes. Just a couch or bed with the imprint of my butt and body on the path of least resistance. And frankly, I'm tired of it. Ah, the path of least resistance.

So, I got off my *path,* found some shoes and socks, put them on and did 30 minutes on the elliptical. I even made myself do some HIIT. And I sweat like a big dog. I didn't use the elliptical handles - I'm just not coordinated enough. But I got my legs going and I did my elliptical thing at the same time as I watched Biggest Loser. And I felt good about that. And then I watched "The Cleaner" with Benjamin - way too hot - Bratt. I was afraid I would not be able to fall asleep - my excuse for not exercising late - but I was out before the weather report at 10:15. This morning I was up at the alarm and out with the dogs by 5:30. We did the long walk - 25 minutes worth. And I feel good about that.

What's ringing in my head is an article I read in Redbook. Some woman had lost about half her self by exercising 30 minutes a day and eating wisely. Well, heck, if that's all it takes, I can do that. But being the "overachiever" I sometimes am, I am going to strive for more than 30 minutes a day. Today will be those 30 minutes plus 40 minutes of circuit training tonight AND at least 20 minutes of bike or treadmill. Tomorrow is 45 minutes of HIIT.

So why do you find yourself on the path of least resistance? Is it because there is an elliptical across the path? What are you going to do to get off that path today?
